Back Cover Of Digipak

Here is the idea for the back panel of my digipak. I chose to use this image as it connotes the emptiness the artist feels left at the end of the music video. And the close up image gives a more interesting image for the audience to engage with. I thought the use of the black fire pit could also connote how the artist is feeling at the end of the music video. The leafy ground shows the location could have been left for a while, which could connote that the artist has not gone back there since the girl left him behind.

Digipak - Middle Panels

Below are the middle panels for my digipak.

This middle panel features the lyrics of the single for the music video, I used them because it is a good way for an audience who like the track to become familiar with it. The photograph I also liked because of the particular angle used I think is effective because it is a location that was used in the music video and featuring in the digipak gives the audience a place and recognisable feature to relate to. The image gives an impression that the artist likes to play at peace and alone to think about writing his music.

This image makes the artist look more fun and engaging that the other photos as he is making eye contact with the camera, giving the image that he is looking at his audience and engaging with his audience. I think the guitar in the photos are again connoting his love for music and the style of music he is writing and making. Again the contrast of the bright image and dark background fits in well with the title of the song and makes the image look simple but effective and fits in the with the theme of my digipak.

Digipak - Front Cover

Below is the front photograph of my Digipak for my artist.

Here I have decided to use a simple image of the artist showing his face well, again as this is helpful for new artists to be recognised and established. I used the bigger font for his name, as again this is good promotion for a new artist, and the title of the track along the guitar I used because it is the main instrument in the track and connotes the acoustic genre that my artist is. The simple image with nothing in the background make the artist stand out more than anything else in the image which again will be beneficial to a new artist as well as giving an interesting contrast of the bright face and dark background which can link to the title of the song 'Time For This Light To Shine". I also think the close up shows well the emotion he is displaying.

Final Submission of Magazine Advertisement

Above is my final magazine advertisement. I have chosen the advert to go in a magazine such as Q magazine or NME, this is because although they are mainly focused on indie/rock they have room for artists such as acoustic, and I do not know of any music magazine specifically focusing on this genre of music. I think this magazine advertisement is catchy and appealing because it has a large image of my artist on, and clearly states the important information for someone looking at the article to take in. The photograph of the artist is important for a new act for an audience to establish the music with a face and to increase the artists popularity, and appeals to those who have not seen the artists face before, but may have heard the name. The name of the artist is large so a name can be linked to the face as well as the music and this helps to increase a fan base too. The image is on a textured dark background with light text to create a contrast of light and dark but also because the text is easily readable like this and too many colours can make an advertisement busy, for this reason I stuck to a black background, white text and coloured image for a variety but also to keep simplicity and keep it easy to read. After the artists name the next piece of information is the album name and when it released, I think this was important because it is the most important part of advertising on the advert, I chose it to go underneath the name because it is instantly the next piece of information you look at. Overall I am pleased with the final magazine advertisement I have produced.

Second draft of magazine advertisement

Above is the second draft to my magazine advert. The changes I made were to promote the album an rearrange some wording and sizing. I think like this version more - but think it is over crowded so my last and final magazine advert will not have quite so much writing. I still think the general layout of my magazine advert is effective, which is why I kept my original idea.

Original photos taken for Magazine Advert

This image above I will use as my magazine advert to advertise a tour that my artist is doing. I chose a plain shot like this, with a clear image of the artist, again to make it easy for the audience to establish a name with a face, and a song. This is helpful to build a fan base because a new artist needs to be established with a face. I also think this image can be easily to manipulate with a coloured background and space for text and tour dates with comments from magazines in. I think my artists magazine advert would appear in such magazines as Q magazine and NME magazine.

First Draft Of Magazine Advert

This is the first draft of my magazine advert - I like the layout, image and style. But for my final, I would like to change the size of some of the font, the colour and move some of the font to a different place on the advert to make the writing more legible. I also wish to add a more specific location of a gig/concert of my artist on the tour dates to make the advert more detailed. The last thing I would like to add is a sentence advertising the album/digipak in the space that is left on the advertisement.
I chose to do my advert like this though, as it shows the face of the artist clearly and clearly advertises dates, website and the name of the artist with a textured background to make the image more interesting and appealing and also the choice of clothing on the artist fits in with the natural acoustic sound of the song with the words wind, water fire and earth being the natural things on the planet. I also think the background colour of the image will fit in with my digipak and the angle as a mid shot of the artist using the torso makes it easy to establish a face and body image of the artist and the name of the single/album is easily readable and clear for a audience who do not know the artist before seeing the advertisement.

Original photos taken for Digipak

The 3 images above are going to be my middle panels, although I will eventually change it to just 2, at the moment I think I am going to use the first and the last image, but I also like the middle as it shows an empty space, which links in to the emptiness the artist feels in the music video. I like the first image because it shows the artist doing what he loves which is playing his guitar and writing/singing his music - as with the front cover image. I also don't think these photographs will need too much manipulating because they are interesting as they are as their own unique photographs to show the artist. On the middle panels - I will write the song lyrics of songs that are displayed on the back cover.

Above is the image I will use for my front cover of my Digipak and I have explained my reasoning in a previous post.

- The back cover will be a shot of the artist and the girl he fell for in the music video and the sunlight shining on them together to link with the name of the single - Time For This Light To Shine. Some track names and a website advertisement will also be on the final back cover. Although I still need to upload this image.

Music And Media Investigation - Questionnaire

Firstly I am going to come up with a questionnaire that my peers and other people I ask can answer when watching the music videos I choose. I am going to try and make my results as reliable as possible by using a varied range of ages and gender, also those with a different favourite genre of music.

Below is the questionnaire I am going to use:

1. What is your favourite genre of music? Choose up to two genres but no more. Please tick.

Rock
Pop
Indie
Punk
Acoustic
Metal
Drum and Bass
Dubstep
Folk
Country
RnB
Hip Hop
House
Garage
Classical
Dance

2. How old are you? Please circle.

0-10, 11-15, -16-20, 21-25, 26-30, 30-35, 36-40, 41-45, 46+

3. Are you:

Male
Female

4. What is your occupation? Please tick

Student
Employed
Unemployed
Other..................................................................

5.
What 'Social Class' would you put yourself as? Please tick.

Working
Middle
Upper

6. Do you think women are represented in a bad way in most RnB/Pop music videos? Please tick.

Yes
No

7. If so, why? Please tick.

So they are a sex symbol
To attract a male audience as well as a female audience
To attract a young audience
Because this is normal
Other..............................................................................................................

8. So do you think women are represented in the same bad way in most Rock/Metal videos? Please tick.

Yes
No

9. Why? Please tick and write your own opinion.

Because this genre has more respect towards women
Because it does not fit in with the style of music
The song lyrics are not about women in a sexual way
Other ...............................................................................................................

10. Do you think a RnB/Pop video that is not recent represents women differently to this genre currently? Please tick.

Yes
No

11. If yes, why do you think this has changed over time? Please tick, and write your own opinion.

Because it has come more acceptable for women to not wear as many clothes
Because the younger generation are more allowed to see women represented in this way
Because it is okay for women to do this now - free choice
Because the increase in use of technology has made music videos more interesting as they are more accessible.
Other...............................................................................................................

12. Do you think this is the same for Rock/Heavy Metal videos?

Yes
No

13. Why?

.......................................................................................................................
